In the past, raisins were a core component of the diet of our ancestors who are believed to contain magical and highly beneficial properties. In Crete, raisins and grape are, together with the honey, the most important traditional sweeteners. Raisins are dried grapes. The production of raisins shows the ingenuity of man to maintain a nearly dehydrated (dry) form of the grape, a product that only offers nature in the summer months.

Today the grape is one of the most nutritious plant foods with special health beneficial ingredients. There are several varieties of grapes, but based on the color and flavor are divided into black and blonde. Black raisins are dark, dense color and flavor while the blonde, light golden color and a more astringent flavor.

But research scientists at the University of Illinois at Chicago, proves the contrary. Specifically in raisins stoned, detected five phytochemicals that have antioxidant and antibacterial activity. The most active of these is oleanolik acid while less active acid is oleanik aldehyde, betulin ,vetoulik acid and furfural. It is known that consumption of sugar is responsible for the acidification and the creation of dental plaque. The raisins contain mainly fructose and glucose that do not support the formation of dental plaque.

Soup carrot, apple -Austria


This hearty, fragrant soup warms up really cold and rainy days.

materials (8 servings)

1 pound carrots
1 / 2 kilo of apples
1 red chilli
50 grams (3 1 / 2 tablespoons) butter
2 liters vegetable stock (or water with vegetable stock cube)
Juice of ½ lemon


Wash the carrots and cut into fairly large pieces. Remove the seeds from the apples and cut into fairly large pieces. Remove the seeds and chop the red chilli. Saute carrots in butter in a saucepan 4 liters. When the carrotsstart to get color, add apples and chili peppers and cook for another minute. Add the vegetable broth (or water andvegetable stock cube) and boil for about 15 minutes until carrots are soft. Pull the pan from the heat. Puree carrots and apples with a hand blender. Add lemon juice. Seasoning. Serve with croutons.

The green tea helps health just because of the polyphenols it contains, but replacing sugary sodas and other drinks containing sugar.One course may oppose to all this the Mediterranean diet, known worldwide as the most balanced diet. But how many more follow a proper Mediterranean diet rich in legumes, fruits, vegetables, fish and low in meat and fat?The Japanese follow the diet described above, because they have established in their schools and part of their education is the right diet.

 At school, meals are served on colorful plates and decorated nicely in order to attract students to want to try. At lunch the school, always served miso soup, along with a small amount of fish, vegetables, fruit and milk. Thus, young children learn from the correct portions, variety on the plate and the importance of fresh food.

Very often make trips to places that produced rice, or fishing villages to get to see where they come from foods and even take part in the gathering of rice or cleaning fish.With such a program in schools, it is difficult to not follow a balanced and healthy diet in everyday life.Is it time therefore we adopt such a program in all schools?
